The incumbent serves as a Motor Vehicle Operator within the Health Administration Service at the Orlando VA Medical Center/Lake Baldwin Clinic to include all outlying clinics. In order for the Orlando VA Healthcare System to provide excellent health care that improves Veterans health and wellbeing, VA employees may be required to work irregular tours of duty, including evenings and weekends in order to conduct the VA's mission.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include, but are not limited to: Drives extra-long and high 36 passenger bus/15 passenger van patient transport vehicles (typically 12,000 to 21,500 lb. average weight).
- →Transports patients to and from facilities to designated stops through inter-city traffic and interstate highways.
- →Drives sedans, carryalls, cargo vans and trucks up to 26,500 lb. curb weight, and other vehicles assigned to the clinic.
- →Ensures a safe comfortable ride for passengers and obtaining signatures for deliveries/pickups if required, making sure all items are inspected as to physical condition, quantity and status.
- →Performs all preventative maintenance tasks, such as checking all fluid levels, lights, wipers, tires, batteries, tools and be able to make minor emergency repairs as needed.
- →Abides by all establishment, city, county, state and federal laws and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles.
- →Maneuvers vehicles over improved/unimproved and even/uneven roads throughout their trip.
- →Adheres to all speed limits and using side mirrors and spotters in difficult areas such as receiving docks and hospital loading/unloading zones.
- →Assist patients in/out of the vehicle when needed, involving physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending.
- →Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Various shifts, May include holidays and weekends and may be subject to rotating shifts in accordance to contractual rules.
