Purpose of this position is to operate patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses and other types transport vehicles, capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers, to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas like patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports. Incumbent drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs.
What You'll Do
- →Motor Vehicle Operator is under the supervision of the Mobility Manager.
- →The incumbent receives work assignments and direction regarding work methods, procedures and schedules from either the Transportation Coordinator and/or the Mobility Manager.
- →Skill in map reading in order to reach unfamiliar locations.
- →Skilled in defensive driving techniques.
- →Skill in motor vehicle mechanics and interpretation of operator's manual for assigned vehicles.
- →Vehicles are driven over roads and streets through various types of traffic and possible weather conditions.
- →Safely transport patients in a manner that minimizes disruption to personnel and ensure maximum comfort during travel, prevents shock, ensures freedom of breathing.
- →Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- →Ability to practice and promote safe work and driving habits and follow standard safety procedures, including identifying existing or potential safety hazards and promptly notifying supervisor and initiating corrective action as required.
- →Use two-way radio (or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations, in accordance with rules and regulations.
- →Ability to safely transport patients.
- →Load and unload patients safely.
- →Perform operator maintenance such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation.
- →Skilled in defensive driving techniques.
Requirements

- ✓Driver's License: A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is required for this position.

- ✓Must be able to independently operate a Government Vehicle.
- ✓Must provide a clean driving record report from the DMV during the pre-employment process.

- ✓Reminder - Do not include a copy of your license; if referred for interview it may be requested at that time.
- ✓Must successfully complete Basic Life Support training.
- ✓A current, valid state-issued Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement is required for this position.
