About the Role

This position is within the Health Administration Service at the VA Maine Healthcare System and supports the surrounding catchment area. The primary purpose of this Motor Vehicle Operator position is transporting Veterans to various locations at medical facility and any additional location as assigned. This position is full-time.

What You'll Do

  • To provide transportation and patient care for patients traveling to treatment sites within the community and other VA Medical Centers.
  • Major duties and responsibilities include: Operate light duty vehicles such as Sedans, mini vans, 8 passenger vans, pickup trucks, light duty construction utility vehicles, and patient transport vehicles to pick up and transport patients under nonemergency conditions from one location to another such as from an airport to a hospital or from one hospital to another.
  • Drive on public roads at controlled speeds to ensure the patient's comfort.
  • Secures cargo to prevent damage to contents during transport and ensures that the vehicle is not loaded beyond the maximum capacity.
  • Refuels vehicles as needed prior to transport.
  • Protects materials, supplies and equipment from the elements.
  • Vehicle transport includes medical and office supplies, equipment, and mail over Federal, State and Country roads in all traffic conditions, on specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules.
  • Performs routine safety and maintenance checks on the vehicle to include, but not limited to, the addition of fuels or lubricants and the checking of tire pressure.
  • Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance of both the in and outside of the vehicle.
  • Completes all maintenance service records to document activities.
  • Provides courtesy rides to staff, Veterans, and visitors as needed to and from parking lots or garages and/or to and from buildings on the facility campus.
  • Assists in areas like the warehouse to receive, store, and move materials and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
