The Motor Vehicle Operator position is located within the Environmental Management Service (EMS), VA Orlando Healthcare System (VAOHCS), Orlando, Florida, and includes support to all associated outlying community-based outpatient clinics. This position requires the following: Current/valid state-issued Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Passenger (P) endorsement No air brake restriction
What You'll Do
- →The primary purpose of this position is to operate a commercial box truck to transport linen, supplies, and cargo safely and efficiently in support of healthcare operations.
- →The incumbent operates a 2018 International box truck (33, 000 pounds GVWR) through urban and interstate environments, covering routes to and from VAOHCS facilities and outlying clinics, on a daily basis.
- →Other major duties include but are not limited to.
- →Transports linen, supplies, and other cargo to and from VAOHCS facilities, outlying clinics, and designated stops through inter-city traffic and interstate highway systems, on a daily basis.
- →Selects safe, direct routes; adheres to established schedules; and complies with all applicable Federal, state, and local traffic laws and ordinances.
- →Obtains required delivery signatures and verifies the condition, quantity, and status of transported linen and supply items.
- →Operates the vehicle in all weather conditions and in congested urban traffic environments.
- →Loads and unloads linen, supplies, and cargo at each stop, using proper lifting techniques and securement methods to prevent shifting or damage during transport.
- →Performs heavy physical tasks, including bending, lifting (50 pounds or more), turning, and moving supplies and equipment.
- →Sustains extended periods of sitting and driving, up to eight hours per shift.
- →Performs daily pre-departure safety inspections of the assigned vehicle and equipment, including checking tire pressure, monitoring fluid levels, and verifying proper operation of all systems.
- →Performs preventative maintenance tasks such as washing the vehicle interior and exterior, changing tires, and making emergency field repairs.
- →Prepares motor transportation records, trip documentation, and other required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- →Reports accidents, injuries, and safety hazards and completes required forms.
