The purpose of this position is to operate patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses and other types transport vehicles, capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers, to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas like patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports. Incumbent drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs.
What You'll Do
- →The duties of this position include, but not limited to: Responsible for safe transport of veterans and other passengers authorized to ride in government vehicles.
- →Operates Motor Vehicles requiring a CDL w/Passenger endorsement.
- →Drives automotive vehicles such as passenger sedans, passenger vans, passenger buses, pickup trucks and heavy duty trucks with GVWR not exceed 23,999.
- →Makes sure that vehicle is kept in good repair inside and outside.
- →Completes preventative maintenance checks on vehicles prior to operation.
- →Performs monthly written reports of Motor Vehicle Trips Logs and Motor Vehicle Trip Tickets.
- →Obeys all traffic signage, signals and lights.
- →Have a working knowledge of traffic regulations and overloading vehicle by its gross vehicle weight.
- →Able to load and unload patients in a safe a manner and location.
- →Able to read and follow road signs.
- →Be able to operate and maneuver vehicles with manual, air and power brakes without jostling passengers.
- →Be able to select alternative routes to avoid heavy traffic, delays and hazards by using map reading skills.
- →Driving proficiency in the terms of safe and expeditious completion of tasks.
- →Be able to perform operational checks such as checking tire pressure, checking fluids, door operation, etc..
