Employee will be assigned to the Maintenance and Operations Section, VA Medical Center Nashville, TN, serving as a Motor Vehicle Operator. Employee regularly transports patients when requested to meet program needs and facilitate clinic visits.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Operates various motor vehicles including sedans, trucks, buses and laydown type patient vehicles.
- →Operates vehicles with gross weight of more than 26,000 pounds equipped with air-type brakes.
- →Makes scheduled trips on a regular and recurring basis carrying patients, materials, and equipment.
- →Performs operator checks and maintenance of all types of vehicles which involve safety equipment, fluid levels, tire pressures, belts and hoses, etc.
- →Operates dump trucks with hydraulic equipment such as platform lifts.
- →May operate tractors with accessory equipment and is knowledgeable of power take-off style equipment and its safe use.
- →Determines the best and safest routes to follow and remains alert to road conditions, hazards, making load adjustments to abide by all laws, weight, heights, and clearances.
- →Maintains vehicle records.
- →Makes independent decisions as to safe operating condition and need for emergent vehicle repairs.
- →Removes snow and ice from VA grounds using all types of equipment as needed.
- →Performs other related duties as assigned.
- →Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
