About the Role

This MILITARY AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST is located is located in the Joint Force Headquarters (State), Support Programs Division and is part of the CA JFHQ J1 HRO.

What You'll Do

  • THIS IS A T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION.
  • The primary purpose of the MILITARY AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST, GS-0301-9, is to is to provide support in the administration of Military & Family Readiness Program (SFRP) services for the Army National Guard within the State Family Program.
  • Develop and maintain a directory of resources, agencies and organizations that are available to assist Service-members, Families and survivors.
  • Ensure accurate and timely input into the NGB-approved system of record for all applicable Service Members and Family case information unit support, community outreach, training provision, volunteer management and other Family Program data.
  • Collect and organizes volunteer, family, and other related data, submit data and information through the State Family Program Director or Supervisory Family Support Services Specialist.
  • Provide training and technical support to Commanders and Family Readiness Liaisons to support their Unit Family Readiness program and Soldier & Family Readiness Groups (SFRGs).
  • Develop and conduct orientation and training programs for volunteers, including Army Family Team Building, Army Family Action Plan and Operation Ready/Readiness Essentials for Army Leaders.
  • Maintain a system of documenting volunteer services and hours, and a library of resource materials concerning volunteerism, and provide materials to volunteers as needed.
  • Responsible to conduct informal and formal training and recruiting of volunteers.
  • Support volunteers to work with the Family Readiness Groups (SFRGs), and to instruct and train units, soldiers, and their families.
  • Provide input to develop, articulate, and implement the Family Readiness Program at the State level, inclusive of family readiness, family assistance, employment outreach, volunteer training and management and improvement of quality of life and well-being of Service members and families.
  • Plans volunteer recognition activities at the unit and State levels and makes recommendations to the State Family Program Director or Supervisory Family Support Services Specialist higher headquarters for state and national level volunteer awards.
  • Plans and conducts workshops and seminars, coordinating volunteer assistance as needed.
  • Assist higher headquarters in planning and coordinating resources for family assistance at deployment cycle support and steady-state readiness activities.

Requirements

  • Recruitment/Relocation Recruitment/Relocation Incentive IS NOT authorized.
  • PCS Relocation Costs IS NOT authorized based on determination that Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move is not in the Government best interest.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • May be required to successfully complete a one or two year trial period.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • Must maintain proper security clearance.
  • This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
  • This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance.
  • Security Clearance: at a minimum a National Agency Check is required prior to position assignment.
  • Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work required OR a combination of education and experience.
  • (Only graduate education in excess of the amount required above may be used.) When there is a positive education or certification requirement, or you are using education to qualify as a substitution for experience, copies of transcripts (unofficial) and/or certificates are required at the time of application to verify that you meet the educational/certification requirement or substitution.
  • Failure to provide transcripts and/or certificates at the time of application will result in automatic disqualification.
  • Only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S.
