About the Role
This position serves as a medical technician in the clinical laboratory with responsibility for performing phlebotomy, specimen processing, waived testing, conducting employee drug screens and other duties assigned to ensure the best possible care.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties and responsibilities include: Performs phlebotomy procedures using proper patient identification, labeling, and tube selection protocols.
- →Ensures patient comfort and safety by explaining procedures and following infection control and PPE standards.
- →Conducts specialized specimen collections (e.g., glucose tolerance, blood cultures, urine drug screens) in compliance with regulations.
- →Processes, labels, and prepare specimens for testing and shipment following established laboratory protocols.
- →Maintains specimen integrity through proper handling, storage, temperature control, and packaging procedures.
- →Reviews and resolves discrepancies to prevent erroneous results and ensures compliance with quality standards.
- →Utilizes Vista and CPRS systems to enter, review, and manage patient orders, laboratory data, and specimen tracking Generates reports, prints appointment lists, and verifies orders to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to collection.
- →Maintains data integrity and confidentiality by adhering to Privacy Act regulations and secure system access procedures.
- →Communicates clearly with patients by explaining procedures, answering questions, and ensuring understanding to reduce anxiety and promote cooperation.
- →Monitors patients during and after specimen collection for adverse reactions (e.g., dizziness, fainting) and respond appropriately, including initiating emergency protocols when needed.
- →Provides age-appropriate, compassionate care to diverse patient populations (young adult, adult, and geriatric), ensuring comfort, safety, and dignity throughout the visit.
