Incumbent serves as an integral administrative part of the ward treatment team, responsible for initiating and performing a variety of administrative duties. Employee uses a broad working knowledge of all Healthcare System programs and services to provide administrative coordination of patient care and to advise the professional staff on administrative and logistical factors associated with direct patient care.
What You'll Do
- →VA Careers - Medical Support Assistant: https://youtube.com/embed/EE9c4XkaELo Daily, checks the ward roster against the Ward Morning Report and Gains & Loss Sheet.
- →Maintains "Bed-board," keeping it current by updating with each patient's movement (as appropriate for the unit/campus).
- →Coordinates all aspects of patients' admissions to the unit by initiating a medical record with appropriate forms in correct sequential order.
- →Files/scans the results of various tests, and all other pertinent data, into patient's charts for the clinical staff's review.
- →Keeps the in-patient chart current and accurate.
- →Purges charts when necessary.
- →Maintains Contingency Plan files.
- →Makes necessary follow-up appointments.
- →Arranges for transfers to other facilities (VA and non-VA), and St.
- →Albans Community Living Center, making sure that chart is in order, signatures obtained and chart complete.
- →Advises and assists in the orientation of patients and professional staff concerning ward routines and Medical Center programs and services.
- →Provides information and technical support on availability of services, points of contact, and necessary authorizations and approvals.
- →Advises new physicians and nurses of such things as locations of patient files, format for requesting medical tests and supplies, and the requirement for completing charts upon discharge.
- →Serves as communications coordinator for the inpatient unit.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
