About the Role

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) serves as a member of the Employee Occupational Health (EOH) and Compensation & Pension (C&P) administrative team. While EOH services are provided at various locations across Central Texas, the administrative duties for EOH and C&P are centralized in Temple, TX. The AMSA provides clerical and administrative support from the Temple location, assisting healthcare providers and staff with scheduling and other essential administrative functions.

What You'll Do

  • VA Careers - Medical Support Assistant: https://youtube.com/embed/EE9c4XkaELo Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Coordinate with patient care teams to review clinic availability, monitor schedules, and adjust as necessary to optimize clinic utilization.
  • Responsible for patient check-in, ensuring accurate demographic, insurance, and pre-registration, and data collection.
  • Develops and maintain effective communication with patients, clinical teams, VA medical centers, and external agencies, including non-VA medical facilities.
  • Assist in care coordination during transitions (inpatient to outpatient), notify patients of results, and manage follow-up systems such as, consults and tests.
  • Responsible for scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling appointments.
  • Responsible for distinguishing between the various types of exams, including pre-employment.
  • Follows up on outstanding actions and facilitating communication between providers.
  • Provides high-quality customer service with tact, diplomacy, and compassion, especially when working with Veterans with complex medical or administrative issues.
  • Receives information from Human Resources (HR) requesting appointments for applicants or transferring employees, schedule and reschedule appointments, enter labs, and respond to HR concerning onboarding process.
  • Responsible for coordinating and scheduling disability exams with appropriate providers, ensuring appointments are set in a timely manner and that all pre-examination requirements are met.
  • Provides the customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
  • Provides care and/or services appropriate to the age of the patients being served, and which is appropriate to the cognitive; emotional, and chronological maturation of the patient.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
