About the Role
The Diagnostic Imaging Service is seeking a full-time Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) for the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, in Charleston, South Carolina.
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (MSA) is assigned to Radiology Service, which provides specialized diagnostic and interventional imaging services throughout the medical center and six Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
- →Typical duties include, but are not limited to: The Advanced MSA performs receptionist duties, customer service and other duties assigned to the proper and timely treatment of patients and maintains appointment schedules for Radiology staff.
- →Will assist with clinical access contingency plans and adjust appointment times, location, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs.
- →Presents knowledge of the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and the VISTA/Rad Picture Archiving System (PACS) and the process to access a patient's record, review the images and make selections for printing.
- →Contacts patients within 24 to 48 hours prior to the appointment concerning a scheduled imaging appointment and provide education pertinent to the procedure.
- →They will ensure a follow-up on appointment no-shows to ascertain the reason, answer any questions and re-schedule the procedure at a future convenient day and time according to the VHA Radiology Scheduling policy guidelines.
- →Interacts in a caring, compassionate manner when explaining procedures to Veterans both in person and on the phone.
- →Incumbents must screen/receive phone calls in a courteous and timely manner, determine the nature of requests and provide the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes.
- →Possess knowledge of the duties, priorities, commitments, and goals of the service in order to perform routine and non-routine assignments in the areas of customer service, and office automation.
- →Utilizes the Microsoft programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams to store, retrieve documents, files, activate printers and transmit and receive electronic mail.
- →The Advanced MSA performs miscellaneous office automation and desktop publishing tasks, such as drafting forms and spreadsheets, work shift schedules, timesheets, patient education sheets, database reports etc.
- →May serve as a backup timekeeper for the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Service staff that includes a variety of rotating and compressed work schedules and night differential, holiday pay, etc.
- →Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm or 10:00am - 6:30pm Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
- →When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
