About the Role

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) functions as serving in the Dental Department in Surgical Care ICC as an initial point of contact for the units, clinics, patient. The incumbent's work impacts the administrative aspect of patient care, including: access, specialized scheduling/coordinating appointments using advanced clinic access principles, collecting and updating demographic and insurance information, patient processing, and customer service.

What You'll Do

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The incumbent serves as the Dental Services Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) and provides clerical administrative support in the coordination, care, and treatment provided to patients in the Dental Department in Surgical Care ICC within the Fargo VA Health Care System (VAHCS)..
  • The incumbent's work impacts the administrative aspect of patient care, including: access, specialized scheduling/coordinating appointments using advanced clinic access principles, collecting and updating demographic and insurance information, patient processing, and customer service.
  • The AMSA is responsible for functions such as serving as an in initial point of contact for the units, clinics, patient, to include, but not limited to, scheduling patient appointments, tracking, reviewing, and responding to electronic orders, consults, and other elements in the electronic medical record and medical systems.
  • The AMSA position requires a practical knowledge of computerized data entry, information processing systems and software related to patient care, the healthcare systems organization and services, basic rules and regulations governing visitors and patient treatment, knowledge of standard procedures, utilizing medical records, and medical terminology.
  • The incumbent plays an integral role in identifying and developing ways to resolve problems with the administrative and clinical staff on access, customer service, patient flow, revenue, and data validation issues.
  • Major duties include (but not limited to): Provide specialized and expert administrative patient care while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model.
  • Administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes.
  • Recommends changes to existing clinic procedures based on current administrative guidelines.
  • Expertise in utilizing numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with the patient, interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model teams, VA medical centers, and other agencies.
  • Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments and/or consults.
  • Monitor appointment requests from multiple electronic sources.
  • Participate in team huddles and team meetings.
  • Adjust the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs.
