About the Role

The Chief of Health Administration Service (HAS) administers the business and medical administration functions for the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center (TVAMC). The TVAMC is a level 3 complexity medical center that offers a wide range of services including primary care, long-term care, rehabilitative care, and mental health services to eligible Veterans.

What You'll Do

  • Major duties include, but not limited to: Serves as the primary point of responsibility to the Associate Medical Center Director for the day-to-day operations of HAS.
  • Exercises considerable independence in actions.
  • Acts in effect as a key and essential representative of the Medical Center.
  • Maintains communication between the medical center and Regional Counsel.
  • Informs management and staff about matters affecting business management services which have actual or potential legal implications.
  • Investigates and develops facts, conclusions, and recommendations in matters requiring investigation that fall within the purview of the HAS or which are assigned.
  • Participates in the medical center's performance measures related to revenue collections to include intake, registrations, insurance card capture, coding, etc.
  • Serves as a member of high-level committees and boards.
  • Makes selections for subordinate positions, reviews and approves selections recommended and/or made by subordinate supervisors; reviews and approves performance plans and appraisals completed by subordinate supervisors.
  • Oversees the business development activities that are responsible for identifying services procured in the community.
  • Works closely with the Medical Center's Care Coordinators to ensure that patient care is coordinated to provide the best possible patient care in the most efficient manner.
  • Work Schedule: 8:00 am-4:30 pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Work Schedule is subject to change based on agency needs.
