About the Role

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans HealthAdministration, Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Durham Veterans Affairs Health Care System (DVHCS), Health Administration Service (HAS) in Durham, NC. The position services the VAMC, and its 10 sites of care including six Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

What You'll Do

  • The Medical Administration Officer position provides oversight, leadership, direct supervision, and management of the integration of clinical and administrative functions and operates in support of improving access to timely and highly specialized care needs for a highly complex Level 1a VAMC.
  • Other duties include but are not limited to: Reviews patient administration and patient care functions to identify areas where improvement could be realized by staff and operational personnel.
  • Conducts workload surveys and scheduling studies in clinics, admission services, various clinical services, and changes work distribution, scheduling policies, etc.
  • Participates in administering programs concerning such matters as equal opportunity, merit promotion, labor management relations, and position management.
  • The position initiates reassignment of personnel as required, and has comprehensive knowledge of Medical Center operations, advising on personnel utilization.
  • Responsible for developing and coordinating performance standards and evaluations of HAS staff and provides counseling for position advancement.
  • The position must be familiar with the procedures for hiring candidates.
  • Manages space and equipment programs for the Service.
  • Coordinates the acquisition of supplies, equipment, and services for the Service.
  • Reviews and approves all requests for supplies, equipment, and services.
  • Arranges for the shared use of equipment, establishes, and administers an effective program of preventive equipment maintenance, coordinates the annual inventory of all property assigned to HAS and oversees the maintenance of accurate records which state the location and condition of the inventory items.
  • Develops both long and short-range plans for HAS by coordinating the medical administration needs of the Service.
  • Responsible for making and implementing decisions directly and in-directly affecting patient care.
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30pm Telework: This position may be authorized for telework.
