You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200), Combat Systems Division (Code 290), Sail Mechanical, Towed Array and Towed Buoy Systems (Code 295) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
What You'll Do
- →You will act as a troubleshooter in the identification and resolution encountered during installations and testing phases of waterfront production efforts.
- →You will conduct and perform pre-arrival testing to identify repair.
- →You will coordinate the efforts of lower-level technicians to ensure scheduled dates will be met.
- →You will prepare Technical Work Documents (TWD’s), Task Group Instructions (TGIs), Deficiency Forms (DFs) and specific material requirements (MRQT0 for production work.
- →You will perform review of all test specifications, check-off sheets, and inspection procedures to be used in testing of assigned systems.
- →You will make investigations of testing failures and prepare reports including remedial action to prevent further occurrences.
Requirements
- ✓Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
- ✓Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
- ✓OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

- ✓OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
- ✓Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
