About the Role

You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the ENGINEERING and PLANNING DEPT, FLUID/MECHANICAL ENGINEERING and PLANNING DIVISION (Code 260.2B) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF

What You'll Do

  • You will act as a lead troubleshooter in the identification and resolution of problems encountered during installation, grooming, or testing phases.
  • You will serve as a mechanical engineer who performs engineering and planning duties in connection with the repair, maintenance, and alterations of fluid/mechanical ship systems for submarines and surface ships.
  • You will interface with various activities, production shops, and ship’s force to coordinate and develop plans for the repair of fluid/mechanical ship systems.
  • You will conduct independent engineering studies, investigations, and analysis for the solution of unusual or unprecedented engineering problems.
  • These engineering evaluations may be used to support Departures from Specifications (DFS) You will identify material requirements and resolve material deficiencies.
  • You will plan, develop, and define engineering guidelines and objectives to be applied in the technical areas of work.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
  • Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
