This position is located in the Warehouse area of the logistics Services in a Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. The position is located at an assigned Veterans Administration medical facility performing warehouse work. Handles or oversees one or more product lines, a segment of a large warehouse, or may serve as the senior employee in a smaller warehouse or supply facility.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties and responsibilities include: Assists in developing plans for storage and arrangement of stock in accordance with VA regulations and requirements that determine the configuration set up, movement, rearrangement and traffic flow.
- →In large warehouse facility, manages space and storage in accordance with VA regulations for a specific commodity or equipment group, such as general supplies, construction materials, medical supplies, and high value items.
- →In small warehouse facility, undertakes the full spectrum of warehouse functions with responsibility for laying out storage space, establishing item locations, determining organization and arrangement of stock and identifying high and low usage items according to VA regulations and procedures.
- →As required, operates a vehicle, truck, or van not exceeding 26000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), with electrical or hydraulic lift.
- →Works on own initiative to consolidate materials and provide maximum space utilization and protection of materials.
- →Coordinates incoming and outgoing shipments and placement of materials on the docking area, which may require scheduling personnel to facilitate movement of materials in accordance with priorities, scheduling requirements and space allocations.
- →Receives, stores and moves hazardous and toxic materials and substances, such as certain types of chemicals or radioactive materials, in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
- →May serve as as a senior member of a warehouse project team of materials handlers involved in special projects, such as conversion of warehouse from a manual to an automated system, relocating a major commodity or equipment group or setting up a new commodity group area.
- →Performs other duties as assigned.
- →Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm Position Description/PD#: Materials Handler/PD99805S Physical Effort: Work involves considerable walking, pushing, and pulling a variety of carts and materials handling equipment.
- →Works offloading and loading trucks, lifting products on an doff-shelves, handling boxes frequently over 40 pounds.
- →Will frequently handle equipment, furniture, and materials of an awkward and heavier nature in excess of 100 pounds.
- →These items typically handled using specialized equipment, and/or assistance of coworkers.
- →Greater physical effort may be required on projects involving the movement of large shipments and deliveries.
