This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Industrial Department, Mechanical Group in Baltimore, MD. This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 1 year, can be extended up to 5 years total an or can be converted to permanent without further consideration.
What You'll Do
- →You will work with and supervise a group of workers engaged in the installation, repair, overhaul, maintenance, adjustment and testing of such vessel equipment as ship propulsion machinery, main and auxiliary engines, ordnance machinery, elevators, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, ventilating blowers, pumps, fire-fighting equipment, galley, laundry and similar equipment.

- →Typical duties include: Passing supervisor's instructions on to workers, working with others and setting the pace; demonstrating proper work methods, making sure that the needed blueprints, tools and materials are available.
- →Independently reassembling and installing equipment, connecting the power sources, performing operational and functional tests, and making required adjustments in order to ensure proper operation of the entire system.
- →Diagnosing malfunctions with computerized equipment and electronic diagnostic systems.
- →Using precision test and measuring instruments such as levels, feeler gauges, tachometers and calipers, height gauges, depth gauges, verniers and micrometers to repair, adjust and test shipboard equipment and machinery such as cargo handling machinery, and fire fighting equipment.
- →Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
