This position is located at the Reserve Fleets, Office of Ship Operations, Office of the Deputy Associate Administrator for Federal Sealift, Office of the Associate Administrator for Strategic Sealift, Maritime Administration (MARAD).
What You'll Do
- →As a Marine Machinery Mechanic Leader, you will: Perform direct and general maintenance support during overhaul and repair of ships assigned to the Ready Reserve Force, identifying required repairs, adjustments, and additional maintenance needs beyond initial work specifications.
- →Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair propulsion, transmission, rigging, propeller, navigation, and auxiliary systems using specialized testing equipment and measuring instruments.
- →Fabricate, modify, and adapt components and assemblies to restore system functionality when standard repair procedures or replacement parts are unavailable or inadequate.
- →Install, align, and connect engines, propulsion components, controls, and associated fuel, oil, and water systems, ensuring proper operation and compliance with maintenance standards.
- →The ideal candidate for this position should possess the skill set and ability to lead employees involved in performing a wide variety of mechanical services for vessels and craft in the National Defense Reserve Fleet.
- →Work is accomplished on ships within the National Defense Reserve Fleet.
Requirements

- ✓SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.
- ✓GOVERNMENT TRAVEL CARD: This position involves travel.
- ✓A government contractor-issued travel card will be issued and must be retained for official business only.
- ✓BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: A background security investigation is required for all selected individuals.
- ✓Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of the security investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Failure to meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.
- ✓DRUG TESTING: Tentatively selected candidates are required to undergo urinalysis in accordance with DOT 3910.1D entitled "Drug and Alcohol-Free Departmental Workplace", which includes testing for marijuana.
- ✓Marijuana is legal in some states, however it's still illegal at the federal level.
- ✓Therefore, if selected for the position you will be required to submit to a pre-employment/pre-appointment drug test, you will also be subject to Random Drug Testing.
- ✓PRE-EMPLOYMENT HEALTH ASSESSMENT: If selected for the position you will be required to complete a pre-employment/pre-appointment medical examination and Functional Capacity Examination.
- ✓PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).
