NIST's Intelligent Systems Division is seeking a Manufacturing Systems Research Engineer to conduct cutting-edge research in augmented intelligence for manufacturing systems and related semiconductor manufacturing projects. This role will aid the development of new methods for control-process-quality relationships in advanced and semiconductor manufacturing. This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.
What You'll Do
- →NIST's Intelligent Systems Division leads efforts to develop, advance, and deploy measurement science and standards to accelerate the development, adoption, and integration of leading-edge intelligent technologies and improve U.S. manufacturing performance.
- →Within the division, the Production Systems Group conducts research to improve scientific understanding and control of manufacturing processes, equipment, and workpiece properties.
- →The research of this group leads to the development of methods and instrumentation for characterizing and evaluating manufacturing processes, which, in turn, provides leadership and contributes to national and international standards used in developing manufacturing processes and equipment.
- →As a Manufacturing Systems Research Engineer, you will: Measure vision-based machine tool thermal errors Design non-contact measurements of cutting tool vibrations Deploy methods for measuring magnetically forced spindle vibrations Create Bayesian learning algorithms for machine tool performance and dynamics
