About the Role

This position is located in Seasonal Staffing Office-Pacific West Region, in the Building and Utilities Division. The selectee will perform recurring building and or utility and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 07/27/2026 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration. Anticipated Entry on Duty: November.

What You'll Do

  • This is a temporary appointment intended for seasonal work that is less than 6 months or 1040 hours from the date of appointment/service year.
  • It is expected this position will be terminated upon completion of the seasons work.
  • The agency may non-competitively rehire an eligible temporary seasonal worker in subsequent years who works less than 6 months or 1040 hours in their service year.
  • As a Maintenance Worker (Trails) (Seasonal) your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Works under a trails maintenance leader or other higher-graded position.
  • The position is primarily engaged in assisting in the maintenance and construction of graded and paved trails, trail drainage, trail bridges, and guard rails.
  • Assists in the installation, repair and replacement of water diversion bars, cribbing and retainer walls.
  • Removes windfalls, rockslides, surface outcroppings and debris from trails.
  • Builds up tread surfaces in eroded areas.
  • Installs stepping-stones at creek crossings where bridges cannot be constructed.
  • Safely and effectively, uses hand power tools required for the job and has the ability to maintain these tools properly.
  • Masonry tasks include the maintenance, repair, and construction of walls (both single- and multi-tier), bridge abutments, causeways, riprap trail tread and other similar structures, using primarily dry-stone techniques.
  • In accordance with directions, quarries, cuts, shapes and finishes stone for use in walls, walkways, bridge abutments and aesthetically pleasing rock walls.
  • Obtains and transports materials by human power, equipment (such as Bobcat loader), or rigging equipment such as a high-line setup.
  • These tasks are normally performed under the direction of a higher- graded worker/leader/supervisor.

Requirements

  • Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • DRIVER'S LICENSE: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
  • You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Government housing may be available.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION: All applicants who are using education or a combination of education and experience to qualify must submit copies of official or unofficial transcripts which include grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, institution name, and student name.
  • Unofficial transcripts are acceptable; however, if you are selected for the position, you will be required to produce the original official transcripts.
  • PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

  • Effective January 2015, employees on temporary appointments may be eligible for health benefits through the Federal Employees Health Benefits program and, if eligible, will receive the same government contribution as full-time permanent employees.
  • To be eligible for consideration, temporary employees working full-time or part-time must be on appointments expected to last at least 90 days, or be on an intermittent work schedule and expected to work 130 hours per month for at least 90 days.
  • Employees electing to participate in the FEHB will be responsible for the employee share of the premium while on the official agency roles, which is deducted from bi-weekly earnings.
  • After separating from federal employment, employees will be offered to continue participation in FEHB under the Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC) option.
  • Employees electing to continue coverage under the TCC provision will be responsible for the full premium amount plus a 2% administration fee.
