About the Role

These WG-4749-07 Maintenance Worker positions will be duty-stationed at locations listed below: Flagstaff Area National Monuments 1 vacancy - Flagstaff, AZ Lewis and Clark National Historical Park 1 vacancy - Astoria, OR These are permanent, full-time Career-Seasonal appointments. Please see the "Duties" section below for more detailed information about Career-Seasonal schedules, hourly pay rates, etc. for both locations.

What You'll Do

  • These WG-4749-07 Maintenance Worker positions are Career-Seasonal appointments which are permanent positions that include the same benefits as Career (year-round) appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis.
  • For both locations, you can expect to be in a non-pay status for a maximum of one pay period (2 weeks) each year.
  • Flagstaff Area National Monuments have non-pay between early November to early December and Lewis & Clark National Historical Park has non-pay scheduled between early February to late February.
  • Maintenance Workers are part of the Facility Maintenance Division.
  • The primary purpose of these positions is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher-graded maintenance workers.
  • Incumbents utilize knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.
  • MAJOR DUTIES: Carpentry Painting Plumbing Roofing Electrical Cement Finishing Masonry At the Lewis & Clark National Historical Park location, selectee will also perform a wide range of trail maintenance and construction tasks using hand and power tools to maintain safe and accessible park trails.
  • Physical Effort: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury.
  • Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.
  • Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees).
  • Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding.
  • Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain.
  • May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc.
  • May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects.

Requirements

  • Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • DRIVER'S LICENSE: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
  • You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
  • HOUSING: Park/Government housing may be available at Flagstaff, AZ location only.
  • UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • WORK SCHEDULE: Depending on location, you may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or overtime.
  • TRAVEL: You may be required to travel occasionally.
  • Overnight away from home is rare, normally for training purposes.
