About the Role

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: October 2026 Open to the first 100 applicants or until 07/17/2026 whichever comes first. What You'll Do

  • This position is responsible for providing building and grounds maintenance for a NPS site with diversified infrastructure and operational complexity.
  • Assist journeyman, or higher level employees with masonry, carpentry, mixing soils, water, and amendments for mortar to remove and repair damaged portions of wall or similar architectural structures.
  • Implement prescribed preservation treatments (capping, veneering, re-pointing, resettling and new laying) to alter, maintain, repair, construct and/or stabilize a variety of assets including historic structures, foundations and ruins, contemporary buildings, trail and road drainage structures, etc. made of adobe, stone block and wood components.
  • Physical Demands: The physical effort required is considered heavy to moderate and requires lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally lifting or moving heavier items with the assistance of a lifting device or other workers.
  • The incumbent is required to work while standing, stooping, bending, crouching and climbing in tiring, awkward, and uncomfortable positions, and in all manners of environmental conditions.
  • Occasionally work is performed beneath buildings where the work area is cramped and dark, or work may be done from highly elevated platforms.
  • Working Conditions: General work is done at prehistoric and historic structures and ruins throughout the park.
  • Often these are in backcountry locations with difficult access that may require rappelling and the use of scaffold and ladder systems.
  • The work is often extremely dusty and direct and of such nature that protective equipment and clothing such as hard hats, safety shoes, goggles, respirators, and ear protection are required, whether working indoors and outdoors.
  • Occasionally the work may be performed outside under adverse weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
  • You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists.
  • Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
  • You may be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • Government house may be available.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home.
  • You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
