About the Role

This position is responsible for general maintenance and repair requirements as established by the Maintenance Supervisor, Supervisory Faciliy Operations Specialist, or Chief, Facilities Management Service, for the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center. This position works under the direct supervision of the Maintenance and Repair Supervisor.

What You'll Do

  • Major duties of this position include but are not limited to: Electrical: Identify electrical problems and define the repairs/upgrades required to ensure safe working and living environments throughout the facility.
  • Carpentry: Operate and use a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools.
  • Operate and use a variety of tools by setting-up, adjusting, and maintaining tools to meet required specifications.
  • Plumbing: Repairs plumbing systems.
  • Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems.
  • Air Conditioning and Refrigeration: Maintenance Mechanic should have some experience in the installation, repair, modification and preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
  • General Maintenance: Laying floor tile; Lock maintenance; Painting; Drywall Repair; Installing ceiling tile, lights and light fixtures, receptacles and switches.
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 3:30pm-12:00am (Subject to change based on the needs of the Agency) Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD84349A Physical Requirements: The prospective employee works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic platforms.
  • He/she often works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty and hard-to-reach locations.
  • The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions.
  • The prospective employee frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry items over 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Exposed to a full array of weather conditions.
  • Subject to danger of falling when working from ladders or hydraulic lifts.
