This Maintenance Mechanic position is in Facilities Management Services at the VA Bedford Healthcare System located at the Bedford, MA location. This position is a full time 40 hour a week.
What You'll Do
- →The purpose of this position is to perform a wide range of work involving general maintenance of support work, survey of wards and buildings, review and completion of tasks in the Area Maintenance Log, maintenance and repair service equipment.
- →Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Must possess the ability to work alone, with minimum supervision, to occasionally direct the work of other tradesmen or lower grade employees assigned to assist their work.
- →Must test installs, maintains all electrical equipment, appliances and systems.
- →Locates and diagnoses trouble in electrical systems or equipment and makes necessary changes or repairs, laying out, assembling and installing electrical equipment.
- →Performs tasks in accordance with national electrical codes and accepted trades and practices.
- →Keeps tools, instruments and equipment in good condition.
- →Installs, modifies, maintains and repairs new and existing medium and low pressure steam heating systems and equipment such as steam heating, condensate and pump systems, radiators, valves, lines, etc., as well as thermostatic and pneumatic controls , for H.V,. units, associated fittings, valves and devices.
- →Performs new construction or maintenance and repair in rough carpentry structural framing and form work.
- →Works on interior and exterior finish carpentry, partitions, windows, doors, frames, building hardware, wall and floor covering products, acoustical work and exterior architectural trim.
- →Performs other duties as assigned.
- →Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
- →Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
- →Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
- →Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation Selective Services Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 Pre-employment physical required.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Must possess a current, valid, state-issued, drivers license.
