This position serves as a Maintenance Mechanic at the Stratton VA Medical Center. The incumbent performs journeyman-level metal fabrication, welding, equipment repair, and maintenance tasks to support hospital operations. Work is performed both in the machine shop and at various field locations throughout the facility.
What You'll Do
- →Major Duties Perform metal fabrication work, including laying out, measuring, cutting, bending, forming, and assembling metal components for a variety of projects.
- →Carry out welding tasks using multiple welding processes on different metals, alloys, shapes, and thicknesses in various positions.
- →Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders to plan and complete fabrication and repair assignments.
- →Select and operate shop tools and equipment such as welders, presses, brakes, punches, grinders, drill presses, and measuring instruments.
- →Perform maintenance and repair on building equipment and machinery, including troubleshooting issues and completing repairs independently.
- →Complete fabrication and welding work both in the shop and at field locations as required.
- →Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD05592A Physical Requirements: Work requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting materials and equipment.
- →The incumbent must be able to lift and carry moderately heavy items and work in various positions to complete fabrication and repair tasks.
Requirements

- ✓Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
