About the Role

The Supervisory Maintenance Mechanic position, Air Conditioning (AC) shop, is an integral part of the Facility Management Service (FMS) at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System's (NF/SG VHS) VA Medical Centers (VAMC). The primary purpose of this role is to oversee a team comprised of skilled AC Equipment Mechanics who are responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning of building mechanical systems and infrastructure within the VAMC.

What You'll Do

  • Include but not limited to: Coordinate and supervise the maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems thought the Lake City VA Medical Center.
  • Ensures the optimal operation of HVAC systems to provide a safe, comfortable, and regulated environment for veterans, staff, and visitors.
  • Plans and allocates resources (human, material, and financial) for efficient completion of maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Prepares supply and equipment lists, maintains inventories, and reviews drawings and specifications for construction projects.
  • Coordinates project activities with other engineering shops and departments to ensure seamless integration and cooperation among various trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
  • Lays out work assignments, delegates tasks, and ensures that each task is allocated to the appropriate personnel based on their expertise.
  • Inspects jobs in progress and evaluates finished work for quality, completeness, and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Trains subordinates on safety practices, new work methods, equipment usage, and ensures cross-training to maintain adequate and timely coverage of repairs/projects.
  • Supervisory Statement: A one year supervisory probation period may be required for this position.
  • Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor/PD061190 Physical Requirements: All work is performed within a hospital setting.
  • You must be physically able to stand, stoop, turn, crouch, and balance in difficult positions.
  • You must be able to climb ladders, work in close physical spaces, and lift up to 60 pounds when necessary.
  • Incumbent will be required to supervise from/on scaffolding high ladders, or rooftops outside in inclement weather including extreme heat and during hurricane alerts.
