This position is at the U.S. Botanic Garden (USBG). The USBG is a public garden in the legislative branch and was established by Congress in 1820. What You'll Do
- →This position is critical, requiring availability during emergencies, inclement weather, holidays, weekends, and possibly rotating shifts as determined by management.
- →The incumbent must promptly respond to environmental conditions, fire alarms, utility outages, or other emergencies occurring outside normal working hours.
- →This position is located within the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief of Operations, United States Botanic Garden (USBG), Operations Division.
- →The Operations Division oversees the daily operations and maintenance of all USBG facilities, including the Production Facility, Administration Building, and the Conservatory, along with outdoor garden areas and water features.
- →The Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor (Operations & Maintenance Supervisor) plays an essential role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of USBG facilities, supporting the organization's mission and goals through effective leadership and management of maintenance activities and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising maintenance activities.
- →Incumbent plans use of subordinate workers' equipment, facilities and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.
- →Establishes deadlines, priorities and work sequences and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods and policies set by higher level management.
- →Coordinates work operations with supporting related work functions.
- →Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects.
- →Redirects individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work or equipment failure.
- →Works with the Operations Division Director (Director of Capital Projects & Facilities) to revise work schedules and execute plans that ensure the efficient use of labor and materials for the safe and continuous delivery of services and for proper operations and maintenance that support the AOC and USBG mission and extend the life of USBG facilities, systems, and equipment.
- →Observes work in progress, investigates work related problems and determines causes.
- →Implements corrective actions to resolve work problems.
- →Resolves staffing and work operations problems.
