About the Role

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Maintenance Mechanic (Carpenter). This position will operate in Engineering service.

What You'll Do

  • Duties are but not limited to: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and perform installations and alterations based upon the blueprint or design drawings.
  • Tile cutting grouting and installations, must have extensive knowledge of flooring underlayment to the finish installation as per design by an architectural engineer or design firm.
  • Installation and repair concrete flooring and ceramic flooring and then the installation of subsurface hydraulic cement and finish flooring without interrupting service to patients.
  • Carpenters apply standard measurements, specifications, and instructions when constructing, installing, or repairing items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding, and scaffolds.
  • Carpenter work is at level is to primarily measure, cut, construct, install, repair, and modify wood, composite, wood substitute items where specific fit and accuracy are within allowable limits to produce a serviceable product.
  • Strong practical knowledge of woods, synthetics, builders' hardware and is familiar with metal studs and drywall construction and finishing, ceiling repair, and installation of both suspended and cemented, floor tile, and furniture (assembly and repair).
  • The incumbent understands other building trades including masonry, plastering, pipefitting, electrical and HVAC to the extent that carpentry structures include some or all the trades to be included in the finished product.
  • Exploits inventiveness and good judgement in developing appropriate and cost-effective solutions to non-routine carpentry repair and construction.
  • Perform installations, design and alterations on curved, complex design and standard brick, block, ceramic, stone and engineered Masonite in a medical center.
  • All aspects of masonry from the structural knowledge of demolition in a post and tension commercial beam and rebar building to the installation of cement both structural and flooring underlayment to the finish installation as per design by an architectural engineer or design firm.
  • Knowledge of tools is required to perform installation of various flooring materials, such as but not limited to the Hot Air Torch, Plastic Welding Gun, Power Groover, Quarter Moon Knife and Trim Guide.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm.
  • Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic (Carpenter)/PD94321A Physical Requirements: The incumbent frequently works in close quarters around hot pipes, heating units, and on wet slippery surfaces.
  • The incumbent frequently handles repair items more than fifty pounds that may be occasionally carried for a considerable distance.
