About the Role
The primary purpose of the License Vocational Nurse(LVN) is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. Also performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. Performs within functional statement under guidance of the Nurse Manager or designee.
What You'll Do
- →The LVN's duties include but are not limited to; The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) performs nursing assignments in the Medical Specialty Clinics and for patients as a member of the Medical Specialty Clinics and for patients as a member of the Allergy, Dermatology, Infectious Disease (ID), ID Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), Nephrology, Neurology, and Pulmonary Clinic Teams.
- →Under the direction of the Physician, Physician's Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner, she/he is responsible for providing direct and/or indirect patient care to the Allergy, Dermatology, ID, ID PACT, Nephrology, Neurology, and Pulmonary Clinic Teams patients.
- →She/he will have the knowledge, skill and experience to carry out assignments including but not limited to data gathering, setting up/breaking down and assisting with diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- →This LVN will take an active role in process improvement and quality monitoring.
- →The LVN ensures Medical Specialty Clinic providers are adequately supported during clinics and procedures and will serve as liaison between support services and Medical Specialty Clinics.
- →The LVN selected for this position will work under the direction of the Medical Specialty Clinic Providers.
- →This position is primarily a Monday - Friday day shift position, but hours may periodically change to meet patient care demands and increase opportunities to screen Veterans for chronic specialty diseases and to provide access to newly diagnosed Veterans with Medical Specialty conditions and/or chronic diseases.
- →Also: Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.
- →(Works with the RN and/or MD/DO to appropriately orient/train less experienced LVNs and/or NAs/HTs in relation to acceptable standards of practice in promoting optimal patient care delivery.
- →Knowledge and skill sufficient to prepare, administer, and appropriately document actions taken specific to commonly prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and/or intravenous medications as permitted by approved local facility policies and procedures.
- →Observation and documentation will include patient's response to medication administered and the reporting of any noted change in patient's condition to RN or MD/DO.
- →Knowledge and ability to recognize the need for and to institute emergency measure when indicated, promptly seek the assistance of the RN or MD/DO and assist in resuscitation procedures in cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest.
- →Recognizes and appropriately responds to breakage/malfunction or loss of equipment, safety hazards, and supply deficiencies, promptly reporting to appropriate personnel for corrective action.
- →Completed work is under the general supervision of an RN or MD/DO.
