About the Role

The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical/License Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the Veteran. Performs within this functional statement under guidance of the Nurse Manager or designee. Assigned tasks require basic technical competence and skill. The LPN/LVN is expected to function at a fully successful level for all key elements.

What You'll Do

  • Duties include but are not limited to; The LPN/LVN meets the needs of all customers while supporting the Medical Center and Service missions.
  • Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
  • Provides the customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
  • Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
  • Provides care and/or services appropriate to the age of the patients being served, and which is appropriate to the cognitive; emotional, and chronological maturation of the patient.
  • Assesses data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age specific needs and to provide care needed as described in the services' policies and procedures.
  • Takes into consideration age-related differences of the various Veteran populations with this institution.
  • The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge of the changes associated with aging and possess the ability to provide care/support based upon age related factors.
  • Ensures staff receives training in these categories.
  • Sensitivity to the special needs of all patients in respect to age, developmental requirements, and lifestyle related factors must be consistently achieved.
  • This position includes a level of physicality normally associated with duties performed by nurses such as direct patient care, and potentially long periods of walking, standing, sitting, moderate lifting, repeated bending, or kneeling.
  • Examples may include but are not limited to: - Significant amounts of time standing assisting assigned patients - Utilization of safe patient handling and mobility protocols Position specific duties/expectations are detailed in the associated competency and should be performed once the competency has been validated.
  • This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments.
  • Preferred Experience: Minimum of 1 year of LPN experience Work Schedule: Full-Time; Monday- Friday; Hours vary between 0730-1700; 8 hour tours; depending on the needs of the facility.
