What You'll Do

  • As a Legislative Affairs Specialist, GS-13 you will perform the following duties: Congressional Appropriations - Extensive knowledge of DHS/ICE programs, policies, and procedures as they relate to the congressional appropriations process.
  • Broad experience with the legislative process and how funding decisions are developed, negotiated, and enacted.
  • Research - Expert at researching congressional records and monitoring hearings to track legislative developments.
  • Proficient in drafting and reviewing testimony and maintaining accurate, up-to-date legislative action records.
  • Written Communication - Writes clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner tailored to the intended audience.
  • Produces written products that are persuasive, accurate, and easy to understand.
  • Planning, Programming, Budget, and Execution (PPBE) - Strong knowledge of budget formulation, justification, execution, and reporting.
  • Understands how program, budget, accounting, and reporting systems interrelate to support resource decisions.
  • Strategic Thinking - Develops forward-looking strategies aligned with the organization's mission and operating environment.
  • Sets priorities, anticipates risks and opportunities, and incorporates a long-term perspective into planning and policy.
