About the Role

The incumbent is a Lead Medical Support Assistant in Radiology Service (LMSA) at the Veterans Affairs Ambulatory Care Center in Columbus, Ohio. The incumbent performs duties related to the receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information. The incumbent must be able to identify customer's concerns, perform the tasks required to resolve the issue accurately and timely, and follow up as necessary to ensure a satisfactory resolution.

What You'll Do

  • Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for the coordination of assignments and workflow of the Medical Support Assistants in the Radiology Reception and Scheduling Department.
  • Assures proper staffing coverage and assesses daily workplace issues to maintain efficiency in the scheduling and registration of Veterans.
  • Assigns day-to-day duties necessary for patient readiness, observing and assessing the work of MSA staff, and resolving complex issues and non-standard procedures.
  • Develops a standardized training program for Radiology MSAs specific to the procedures and policies of the Department of Radiology.
  • Leads the training of new MSAs in the department, ensuring their training is comprehensive.
  • Monitors systems to make recommendations for improved operations, identify educational or training needs, and assist with hiring new MSA employees Works closely with the Service Chief, Radiology Administrator, and Radiology Supervisor to ensure procedures follow the National and local Radiology Scheduling Directives, Policies, Standards of Practice, and Guidance.
  • Lead Controls: Plans and organizes work with general assistance from Radiology leadership to meet locally and nationally established time frames and performance measures and performs analysis, reports, and special assignments.
  • Communicates with Radiology leadership, physicians, case managers, and other allied health professional staff using sound interpersonal skills and is constantly aware of sensitive information.
  • Works independently, making decisions based on guidelines, precedents, and regulations, and performs duties in such a manner that only minimal supervision is required.
  • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Telework: Available, Ad-Hoc as determined by the agency policy.
