About the Role

The incumbent is an integral team member of the inpatient health care team within the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS). Inpatient hospital units within MVAHCS include the Primary Care (PC) service line acute medicine, medical step-down, and flexible acuity.

What You'll Do

  • Major Duties: The Lead Inpatient MSA is responsible for answering questions for lower graded staff relating to healthcare services in an inpatient setting.
  • The Lead MSA monitors and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues, and maintains efficient workflow.
  • Responsibilities also include reviewing and monitoring data to ensure reports are complete and accurate; planning, distributing, and balancing workload according to priorities, workflow, grade levels (GS 3, 4, 5), and staff capabilities; and promoting team building while ensuring timely completion of assignments.
  • The position performs a variety of administrative functions such as overseeing day-to-day program or unit operations, assisting with contingency planning, ensuring coverage of all responsibility areas, conducting ongoing audits of work completed, maintaining accurate appointment scheduling, and providing guidance on policy and procedural changes.
  • The role also includes observing employee performance, providing feedback to employees, and communicating performance outcomes and feedback to supervisors.
  • The incumbent must maintain records and statistical data to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and quality of inpatient MSA work, as well as collect, compile, and present reports to staff and leadership.
  • Work Schedule: Monday- Friday- 0730-1600-Every other weekend; every other holiday Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
  • When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not available.
