About the Role

The Lead Medical Support Assistant (LMSA) is a highly, specialized position and performs multiple duties in the Office of Community Care (OCC). Important interfaces and collaborations also occur with larger health care system providers including VA and Community providers, hospitals, diagnostic and treating facilities, and community-based programs.

  • The LMSA will perform duties as part of a multi-disciplinary team that consists of physicians, Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, other administrative staff members and multiple non-VA medical care providers.
  • The team provides the majority of the healthcare needs for assigned primary and specialty care services and works collaboratively with other members of an expanded health care team to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care.
  • The incumbent reviews and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow.
  • The incumbent assures coverage of all areas of responsibility.
  • The incumbent will be conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work and reviews tracking systems for items such as consults and authorization timeliness.
  • The incumbent will provide guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met; and organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas.
  • The LMSA will create and maintain work environment that fosters productivity, customer service and employee satisfaction and acting as liaison between MSA and staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts.
  • The LMSA will serve as a knowledge reference for staff regarding programs and processes conducted in the OCC.
  • The incumbent is required to have substantial knowledge of the Community Care processes and services.
  • Work Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
