The Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Interventional Radiology (IR) serves as the lead technologist for the IR section and is responsible for coordinating day-to-day technical and workflow activities within the assigned area.
What You'll Do
- →The Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (IR) works closely with technologists, radiologists, nursing staff, clinicians, clerical staff, Biomedical Engineering, Logistics, and service leadership to promote efficient operations, high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic imaging, patient safety, and patient satisfaction.
- →Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Functions as the lead technologist for a group of Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists and related staff assigned to the Interventional Radiology section.
- →Provides day-to-day coordination of work while remaining accountable to the next higher-level supervisor.
- →Provides technical guidance and workflow coordination for IR operations, assists with prioritization of work, monitors status and progress of assignments, and communicates operational concerns, barriers, and recommended adjustments to the supervisor.
- →Performs complex Interventional Radiology procedures and provides lead guidance to staff in technical operations, workflow coordination, training support, equipment readiness, supply oversight, and quality practices.
- →Demonstrates skill and advanced knowledge of sterile technique, contrast media use and safety, radiation protection, image acquisition, anatomy, physiology, vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures, and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
- →Performs a full range of interventional radiology procedures on inpatients and outpatients, including emergency patients, in the Imaging Service and other approved patient care areas as required.
- →Assists radiologists, vascular surgeons, and other privileged providers during interventional and special procedures and anticipates procedural needs to support safe, efficient, and effective patient care.
- →Performs complex interventional studies using highly specialized imaging equipment, including fluoroscopy systems, pressure injectors, patient monitoring equipment, advanced workstations, and related IR technology.
- →Practices and reinforces sterile techniques, infection control standards, sharps safety, and other procedural safety requirements to minimize risk to patients and staff.
- →Prepares, handles, and supports administration of contrast materials in accordance with policy, provider direction, and patient safety requirements.
- →Maintains awareness of potential contrast reactions and patient condition during procedures.
- →Performs peripheral intravenous access associated with imaging procedures when required by assignment, training, and policy.
- →Coordinates room readiness and supply availability for IR procedures and ensures that adequate quantities of routine, emergent, implantable, and specialty supplies are available to meet workload demands.
