What You'll Do

  • Serving as a Law Enforcement Specialist (Forensic/Investigative Instructor) GS-1801-12 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission.
  • This position is located in the Investigative Operations Division (IOD) under the Technical Training Operations (TTO) Directorate and located in Glynco, Georgia.
  • The primary purpose of this position is planning and conducting classroom, laboratory, and/or field instruction sessions as part of the division's forensic techniques and applications training programs.
  • Conducting training classes for personnel and planning, coordinating, and executing field training and lab exercises for courses such as Physical Evidence, Crime Scene Processing, Crime Scene Preservation, Fingerprints, Prisoner Processing, Human Trafficking, Death Investigations, Drug Recognition, Controlled Substances Identification, and Authentication of Identification Documents.
  • Using experience in conducting forensic investigations to create complex mock physical evidence and crime scenes containing trace, biological, fingerprints, footwear impressions and other types of forensic evidence used in training scenarios.
  • Monitoring the progress of students, documenting results, and recommending remedial and corrective actions.
  • Using life experiences and expert knowledge of criminal and/or forensic investigations and the legal presentation of physical evidence in courtrooms to enhance course content and respond to student questions.
  • Participating in the development of course/program materials, initiating suggestions and recommendations for program/course content changes and developing different approaches and methods of instruction.
  • Conducting research on emerging technology, practices, and techniques to enhance instructional knowledge and skill.
  • Participating in ad hoc committees made up of representatives of the FLETC and other agencies concerned with training policies and academic requirements.
