This position is located in the Consolidated Laundry at the St. Albans VA Medical Center, NY, and performs a wide variety of laundry and linen distribution work to include: receiving, storing, distributing, and maintaining stock levels of government linens and garments. The incumbent is responsible to provide linen and uniforms to the Brooklyn VA Medical Center, St. Albans VAMC, Bronx VAMC, Manhattan and Northport VA Medical Centers.
What You'll Do

- →Operates flatwork spreader/feeder, ironer, folder, etc.
- →Operates a lift station and rail sling system.
- →Performs routine care and maintenance on laundry equipment.
- →Cleans and sanitize work area.
- →Inspects linens for damage, stained items, etc.
- →Keeps equipment, cords, hoses, etc., clean and properly stored when not in use.
- →Assists with cleaning the plant at the end of the shift.
- →Utilizes proper cleaning solutions and/or chemicals to successfully remove stains from avariety of textiles.
- →Cleans soiled linen from ward areas or clinics using the proper collection methods forhandling possibly contaminated items.
- →Performs routine maintenance on cleaning equipment such as tightening nuts and bolts and/orgreasing/oiling fittings and wheels.
- →Maintains production counts and inventory records of all supplies.
- →Reads and follow posted care and maintenance instructions through signs and pictures.
- →Follows simple written instructions for completing non-routine laundry related tasks.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation Selective Services Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
