About the Role
This is an Laborer (Motor Vehicle Operating) Seasonal Position at Gateway National Recreation Area. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is October - March, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: October 2026 Open to the first 100 applicants or until 07/20/2026 whichever comes first. What You'll Do
- →MAJOR DUTIES: Operate heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers, brush cutters, brush chippers, portable snow blowers, and various types of hand and light power tools (such as shovels, pulaskis, picks, digging bars, rakes, lawn edging equipment, electric drills, etc.), to maintain buildings.
- →Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, etc.
- →Move furniture, remove and set signs, paint picnic tables and signs, rake and water lawns, trims trees and shrubbery, picks up litter, cleans and repair fire pits.
- →Dig ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where soil is hard and compact and must grade or slope; occasionally breaks up pavement, soil, or concrete; mix and pour concrete, asphalt, and hot/cold mix; fill and levels holes in damaged roads.
- →Operate and perform minor operator maintenance on light duty motor vehicles such as pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, and crew cab pickup trucks, which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 4500 kilograms (10,000 pounds).
- →Perform janitorial duties for buildings and grounds when required.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- ✓Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
- ✓You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
- ✓You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- ✓You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
- ✓A uniform allowance will be provided.
- ✓You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- ✓Occupancy of government quarters may be required and may be offered.
- ✓There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
