The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is unique in the size and the scope of its work. It serves as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. On the local side, AUSAs assigned to the Superior Court Division prosecute cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicides. On the federal side, AUSAs assigned to the Criminal Division prosecute federal crimes. The Civil Division further defends the United States in civil suits brought in the District of Columbia.
What You'll Do
- →This position is an unarmed law enforcement support position and does not make arrests or directly confront, apprehend, or take custody of criminal suspects.
- →This position involves significant time spent in the field in all weather conditions at all hours of day and night.
- →Typical work assignments include: Assists in identifying necessary actions to accomplish investigative milestones related to locating and observing subjects of investigation.
- →Prepares reports and maintains records of moderate complexity.
- →Examines and analyzes fact patterns and evidence, summarizes investigative activities and findings.
- →Provides law enforcement support including testifying in a variety of hearings; preparing documents, prepares documents, assists locates and obtains evidence and information; and provides logistical support for hearings and trials.
- →Canvasses areas of interest for evidence and identifies additional sources of potential evidence.
- →Utilizes surveillance and investigative tradecraft to locate subjects and targets of criminal investigations, as well as witnesses and victims who are potentially uncooperative or hostile.
- →Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements
- ✓You must be a U.S.
- ✓Citizen or National.
- ✓Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication.
- ✓This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
- ✓Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- ✓You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- ✓Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
- ✓If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- ✓You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
- ✓Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted motor vehicle operator's license while employed in the position and will be required to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with applicable OPM regulations and related requirements of the Department of Justice.
- ✓This position is unarmed and is not permitted to carry or use firearms as part of official duties.
- ✓Performance of above duties requires moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather.
- ✓Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required.
- ✓Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that incumbent may perform the duties satisfactorily.
