About the Role

The Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) serves as an advanced technician in outpatient care settings (primary care, mental health, specialty clinics) within the Department of Veterans Affairs. ICTs provide direct patient care under the supervision of licensed personnel, supporting clinical operations at VA medical centers, community-based outpatient clinics. Supports patient care, documentation, and education to improve outcomes for Veterans.

What You'll Do

  • CTVHCS is in the process of making a cultural change, shifting from a disease-focused approach to a health and wellbeing approach, in order to implement the Whole Health System of Care.
  • This is a VA-wide initiative to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to improve healthcare delivery at all stages of Veteran care.
  • This entails moving from an episodic, "siloed" approach to an interdisciplinary, holistic approach, emphasizing self-care in the larger context of well-being.
  • Perform patient screening, clinical assessments, and collect health histories.
  • Assist with crisis intervention and behavioral/psychiatric situations.
  • Support licensed staff with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations.
  • Operate and maintain medical equipment; collect and prepare specimens for lab processing.
  • Respond to emergencies, including performing CPR and using AEDs as needed.
  • Accurately document care, interventions, and patient responses in electronic health records.
  • Educate patients within scope of care and assist with follow-up.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and communicate clearly with patients and staff.
  • Apply knowledge of medical protocols, safety procedures, and clinical judgment in all aspects of care.
  • Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency.
  • In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
