About the Role

The Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) is assigned to Gastroenterology department within Medical Service, Department of Veterans Health Administration. AMERICA'S VETERANS NEED YOU!

What You'll Do

  • Duties include providing assessment and management of ambulatory patients seen in the Gastroenterology Department.
  • This may involve obtaining patient health history, chief complaints, medication history, and identification of health-related conditions that may impact the patient's health status.
  • The incumbent will evaluate patients for Gastroenterology medical conditions, order appropriate diagnostic studies and perform a wide range of Medication procedures under the direction of the supervising physician.
  • Necessary interventions based upon patient symptoms and established protocols/standards of care should be part of the routine capabilities of this position.
  • The incumbent must independently recognize life threatening situations and act to correct these according to established national or facility protocols.
  • This requires understanding in the use of pulse oximetry and capnography.
  • Allowable procedures if properly trained and deemed competent by the supervising physician includes, but is not limited to: Starts peripheral IVs and Venipunctures.
  • Diagnostics such as: Vital signs, EKG, Visual acuity.
  • Administration of: Oxygen, basic IV fluids, Limited PO meds, IM meds/immunizations/vaccines The administration of medications is to be under the supervision of a physician, nurse or other authorized healthcare provider.
  • In addition to ongoing Gastroenterology Room duties, the incumbent will respond to medical emergencies on the facility grounds, and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening as part of the Rapid Response Team (RRT).
  • Conducts or assists with the training of personnel in CPR, basic, and advanced Gastroenterology medical care techniques if appropriately trained and qualified.
  • Can conduct or assist with blood pressure and glucose screenings, flu immunizations, etc.
  • Patient Transport: May transport monitored and unmonitored patients to diagnostic procedures and outpatient and/or inpatient units.
  • The incumbent performs triage duties as assigned.
