You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the OCC SAFETY & HEALTH DIVISION, OCC SAFETY HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
What You'll Do
- →You will provide industrial hygiene expertise, IH surveys, and investigations to identify, evaluate and control conditions or hazards that may cause occupational illness, injury, or otherwise affect the well-being of Shipyard employees.
- →You will provide atmospheric testing for flammable, toxic and oxygen-deficient or enriched atmospheres in confined, enclosed, or poorly ventilated spaces.
- →You will implement gas free engineering technical expertise to the Shipyard to identify, evaluate and control conditions or hazards that may cause occupational illness, injury, or otherwise affect the well-being of Shipyard employees.
- →You will conduct workplace monitoring, bulk sampling and analysis, and IH investigation of illnesses, asbestos surveys and oversight of OSH program elements, and maintain proficiency in asbestos fiber counting and bulk analysis.
- →You will provide industrial hygiene/gas free engineering guidance to engineering departments and appropriate personnel to ensure compliance with OSH and gas free engineering requirements.
- →You will review standards, criteria and guidance promulgated or proposed by higher authority such as NAVOSH, OSHA and NAVSEA, and adapt the criteria to meet local requirements.
Requirements
- ✓Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.
- ✓Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- ✓Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
- ✓You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts and/or Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing.
- ✓Failure to do so will result in an ineligible rating.
- ✓Evaluation of Education All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university.
- ✓For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) as a professional engineering curriculum.
- ✓Evaluation of Experience Qualifying experience involves the recognition, evaluation, corrective actions, and elimination of environmental conditions in the workplace that causes sickness, impaired health, or illness.
- ✓This experience must demonstrate a professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of industrial hygiene and closely related sciences such as physics and engineering controls.
- ✓POSITIVE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: This position has a Positive Education Requirement.
- ✓In order to verify that you meet the basic education requirement for this position, you must submit a complete copy of your transcripts for all degrees (unofficial transcripts are acceptable), or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (Course title, semester/quarter hours and grade).
- ✓Failure to submit this information will result in an ineligible rating.
- ✓Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
