Ophthalmology Technicians in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) support Ophthalmologists & Optometrists in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, follow-up care and patient counseling.
What You'll Do
- →The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers.

- →As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran.

- →Major duties include but are not limited to: Obtains and records basic patient information, including chief complaint, ocular history, and current medications.
- →Measures and documents visual acuity using standard testing methods.
- →Assists with basic patient preparation for exams, including positioning patients, explaining procedures, and ensuring comfort.
- →Prepares exam rooms, maintains cleanliness, and ensures availability of basic supplies and equipment.
- →Applies basic ocular medications as directed by the provider and within scope.
- →Ensuring all rooms and advanced equipment are maintained, calibrated, and prepared for use according to clinic protocols.
- →Providing detailed patient education regarding disease processes, diagnostic tests, and postoperative care.
- →Triaging patient walk-ins, calls, and electronic messages, assessing acuity, and acting appropriately within scope.
- →Documenting all findings and procedures with a high degree of accuracy and completeness in accordance with facility standards.
Requirements

- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
