About the Role

This is an Open Continuous Announcement. Applicants will be referred to selecting manager based on application submission order. Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay)

What You'll Do

  • The Geriatrician within Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) Service reports directly to the Service Chief of Geriatrics and is responsible for the clinical functions of Geriatric providers working at the Roudebush VA Medical Center.
  • The incumbent is responsible for participation in appropriate performance improvement and system redesign activities, as well as for advancing the principles of appropriate management/standards of care applicable to our patients with Geriatric Conditions.
  • The incumbent will provide patient care, teaching, and research missions as appropriate within the outpatient clinics, and the inpatient care units.
  • Geriatric Medicine Physician: Responsible for the oversight of all aspects of medical care delivered to patients under their care.
  • Provide or assist residents, fellows, other physicians, and/or advanced practice providers in the process of evaluation and treatment of the geriatric patient.
  • Perform outpatient Geriatric evaluations and consultations in the Geriatric Consultation Clinic in a timely manner.
  • During scheduled tour hours, the incumbent will be available for all urgent assessments and interventions as part of the Geriatrics consult service care team.
  • Maintain appropriate credentials and privileges Participate in various hospital committees, GEC Service and hospital in-service programs, and education programs of the GEC Service and the hospital.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement by participating in the VA peer review process.
  • Responsible for graduate and undergraduate medical education and scientific research, as appropriate.

  • Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay) This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.
  • You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
