FUL Seasonal Maintenance Worker (Trails)

About the Role
This position is located in Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, in the Facilities Maintenance Division. This position is located in a unit of the National Park Service. The incumbent works primarily on the backcountry and front country trails. The primary purpose of the position is to assist journeyman level tradesmen in all areas of trails maintenance in the park unit.
What You'll Do
- →As a Maintenance Worker (Trails), you will perform the following duties: Assists in the maintenance and construction of graded and paved trails, trail drainage, trail bridges, and guard rails.
- →Assists in the installation, repair, and replacement of water diversion bars, cribbing and retainer walls.
- →Removes windfalls, rockslides, surface outcroppings and debris from trails.
- →Builds up tread surfaces in eroded areas.
- →Installs steppingstones at creek crossings where bridges cannot be constructed.
- →Uses hand power tools required for the job and can maintain these tools properly.
- →Physical Demands: Heavy physical exertion is frequently required in bending, lifting, and using hand and power tools in trail work.
- →Ability to frequently walk up to 20 miles daily while carrying a loaded pack weighing up to 60 pounds; and must not have potential emergency medical problems that could complicate work in remote areas for extended periods of time.
- →Working Conditions: Ability to live and work effectively in isolated backcountry areas in close contact with small numbers of people.
- →Some location may have you live and work out-of-doors on projects including mountainous terrain up to 14,000 feet in elevation in all extremes of weather.
- →Trail work is dusty and hazardous conditions may exist while working at certain jobsites.
- →This position may also require working around machinery.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
- ✓You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists.
- ✓Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- ✓Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
- ✓You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
- ✓A uniform allowance will be provided.
- ✓You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- ✓There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
