About the Role
This position is in the Diplomatic Affairs Division, Office of the Chief of Protocol, Office of the Secretary (S/CPR/DA). The Diplomatic Affairs division oversees agrément, credentialing, and accreditation of foreign ambassadors and liaises with the Diplomatic Corps on related matters on behalf of the Chief of Protocol. The Division supports the presentation of credentials by foreign ambassadors to the President.
What You'll Do
- →Develops and implements the Department's accreditation policy for bilateral foreign mission leadership in the United States under the direction of the Assistant Chief of Protocol for Diplomatic Affairs.
- →Provides expertise and authoritative operational and advisory support in the agrément, credentialing, and accreditation of Chiefs of Mission, Deputy Chiefs of Mission, and Charges d'affaires.
- →Evaluates the effectiveness of program operations in meeting the established goals and objectives, consistent with federal and international law, standard diplomatic practice, and resource and policy considerations.
- →Serves as the primary liaison handling issues ranging from routine to complex, and/or controversial, that arise in relations with foreign diplomatic corps leadership, including matters involving law enforcement.
- →Formulates measures to evaluate effectiveness and strengthen the process for vetting and credentialing new foreign ambassadors.
