About the Role
The Float Pool Nurse Manager holds the responsibility for the implementation of the Vision, Mission, and Values of Orlando VA Healthcare Center within their defined areas of responsibility. They are engaged in administrative nursing practice characterized by both increased complexity of clinical decision making and enhanced skill in nursing management. The Nurse Manger provides leadership in the day to day operations of the nursing staff assigned to the float pool.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include but not limited to: Keeps staff informed of Orlando VA Healthcare Systems administrative goals through facilitating both vertical and horizontal communication in a timely manner.
- →Proves frequent supervision of nursing personnel assigned to them and evaluates their performance and competency.
- →Knowledgeable concerning the disciplinary process and keeps their supervisor abreast of such actions.
- →Collaborates with the Nursing Officer of the Day as a key stakeholder in the assignment of the Float Pool staffing resources.
- →Responsible for all issues that affect nursing including standards of practice, credentialing, training, functional statement, position descriptions, proficiency reports, performance appraisals, policies, procedures, protocols, and competencies.
- →Ensures appropriate orientation, education and continuing professional development of nursing personnel supervised.
- →Creates a positive work environment that enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff.
- →Promotes a culturally divers workforce in which in the values and needs of all individuals are respected.
- →Enhances care outcomes by collaborating with members of interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence based cutting edge programs/processes.
- →Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
- →Adheres to ethical principles in decision making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
- →Equips staff with tools for competent care and promotes an environment of accountability for high quality, cost effective outcomes.
- →Promotes alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
- →Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence based, accessible, affordable patient care.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.
