About the Role

You will serve as a Field Unit Local Hiring Authority (FUL) - Park Ranger (Emergency Services) within the Visitor and Resource Protection Organization, located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Page, Arizona. Open to the first 50 applicants or until 07/21/2026 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.

What You'll Do

  • This position is a Career-Seasonal appointment.
  • These permanent positions include the same benefits as permanent appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis.
  • You will work for approximately 11 months, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.
  • Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Provides advanced emergency medical care, maintaining EMS equipment, and participating in quality assurance and protocol review to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Manages response readiness by overseeing ambulance and supply inventories, performing regular checks, addressing shortages, and implementing innovations like digital records and GPS data collection to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Maintains certification, provides emergency response in coordination with local agencies, conducts comprehensive patient assessments and treatments, and operates emergency vehicles safely under all conditions.
  • Coordinates EMS training and certification for all providers, plans park-wide education seminars, maintains instructor credentials, and ensures compliance with relevant policies through chart audits and quality assurance reviews.
  • Delivers preventative search and rescue messaging and wellness education to reduce injuries and improve health for visitors and staff, including developing training events and instructing technical rescue skills in various environments.
  • Physical Demands: The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as climbing, hiking, and lifting heavy objects.
  • Work may be performed on uneven, steep, rough, slippery, and/or rugged terrain.
  • EMS and search and rescue activities involve walking long distances over rough terrain, carrying heavy loads, and using technical rescue equipment.
  • Going without sleep for long periods of time is a common occurrence.
  • Incumbent must be able to ride in a motorboat or fixed wing aircraft without ill effects.
  • The paramedic role often requires the lifting of patients (in excess of 50 pounds) and heavy equipment (in excess of 70 pounds), and can be within a confined working environment, including making access to a patient.

Requirements

  • Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Direct Deposit participation required.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.

  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away occasionally.
  • You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Advance Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMT) with Parkmedic certification or higher.
  • Pre-employment and random drug testing are required.
  • You will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.
