About the Role

The incumbent serves as the Facility Operations Specialist for the Facilities Management Service, Maintenance Sustainment Unit (MSU), coordinating and directing maintenance and repair activities, ensuring compliance with safety and accreditation standards, managing work orders and inspections, and supporting efficient operations across the Loma Linda VA Medical Center.

What You'll Do

  • Duties for the Facility Operations Specialist include but not limited to: Coordinate and direct work performed by various trades and labor employees across the Loma Linda VA Medical Center.
  • Perform administrative work involving maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, structures, and surrounding areas.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure preventive maintenance schedules and work performance meet required standards.
  • Test and evaluate integrated maintenance systems and apply practical data to identify repair or replacement needs.
  • Plan and conduct maintenance and repair work, prepare cost studies, and assist in tracking integrated systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, communications, and utility components.
  • Serve as the point-of-contact for maintenance and repair work requests, reviewing orders, determining resources, and assessing compliance with directives.
  • Provide on-site consultations, resolve discrepancies, review procedures, and offer authoritative guidance on maintenance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Operations staff to coordinate timely emergency responses and appropriate work order actions.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, safety, fire prevention, infectious disease, and security programs for Facilities Management Service.
  • Inspect and direct activities involving plumbing, masonry, water, electrical, and other facility services.
  • Inspect contractor work for compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Determine and project funding requirements for maintenance and repair projects, including preparing justification documents.
  • Track Joint Commission violations, compliance inspections, and maintain corrective action plans.
  • Assist project managers with contract management, prepare and submit required documents, and process timecards during staff absences.
